The expanded Library and Cultural Center, designed by award-winning firm of Lothrop Associates, will be both modern and historic, a destination for cultural, literary, and leisure activities, right in the heart of Law Park.
Plans for the addition (main level | upper level), to be furnished with private funds, include the following:
-
A children's room with defined areas for age groups from toddlers to pre-teens, with sufficient shelving for a growing collection;
-
A small program room for children's activities;
-
A dedicated teen area with comfortable seating, computer access, books, magazines, CDs and DVDs;
-
Breakout rooms in both the children's and teen areas for group study, library-sponsored book clubs, or for parents and children to read in a quiet space;
-
A program room/gallery, seating approximately 75 people, for concerts, art exhibits, book discussions, lectures and meetings;
-
Book stacks to house the adult collection, with adequate shelving to accomodate future growth.
Additionally, private funding will restore the original train station portion of the Library for use as the adult service area, which will provide such amenities as:
-
Comfortable areas for patrons to sit, relax and enjoy current magazines and newspapers, as well as popular books and media;
-
A reference area with print, multi-media and on-line resources;
-
A local history area with archival information on Briarcliff Manor;
-
An open area with sufficient public access computers;
-
A separate, sound-proof lab for computer training;
-
Areas where patrons can enjoy wireless Internet access.
